Disability Rights Ohio - We have the legal right of way.

Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home — so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person; the neighborhood he lives in; the school or college he attends; the factory, farm, or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman, and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere.  –Eleanor Roosevelt

Know Your Legal Rights.

We can help people with disabilities with problems, such as:

  • Abuse and neglect
  • Discrimination
  • Accessibility issues
  • Access to assistive technology
  • Special education
  • Housing issues
  • Employment issues
  • Community integration
  • Voting and rights protection issues

Who We Are

At Disability Rights Ohio, our mission is to advocate for the human, civil and legal rights of people with disabilities in Ohio. We work to end discrimination and to make true integration into the community a reality. Services are free and confidential.

Disability Rights Ohio is governed by a Board of Directors primarily consisting of people with disabilities and family members of people with disabilities.

What We Do

Disability Rights Ohio provides legal advocacy and rights protection to a wide range of people with disabilities. We educate. We support. We protect and uphold. We dignify. We argue for. We challenge and defend. We work within the legal system to provide our clients with their best chance at living with dignity, equality, independence, and inclusion.

We Envision

We envision a society in which people with disabilities are full and equal members; where they enjoy the rights and opportunities of all people; are self-directed; make decisions about where, how and with whom they will live, learn, work and play; have access to needed services and supports; and are free from abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination.

How We're Different

We have the law on our side. We are the client-directed voice for people with disabilities, designated under federal law as the system to protect and advocate for their rights and as the Client Assistance Program under the Rehabilitation Act.
