#AdvocacyMatters: A Path of Opportunities

The search to improve one’s quality of life – perhaps through a new employment opportunity or receiving new services – is often exhausting, frustrating, and defeating. Chasing down contacts and information takes time and energy that is likely needed elsewhere. It’s far too easy for that to be the end of the line, as cycles of marginalization start anew.
This September, we are collaborating with several other organizations to host the Southeast Ohio Job and Disability Resource Fair. Our vision for this first-ever event is to directly connect people with disabilities to the service organizations and employers who can improve their quality of life. Our planning for this event, however, can’t be completed without you.
We are currently seeking employers, employment organizations, and disability service organizations who would like to participate in this event. Participating organizations will staff tables throughout the park with information about themselves and what they do, with the ability to connect directly with prospective employees or clients. The availability of programs and services alone isn’t enough to move us forward… for only through their accessibility can outcomes toward equity be achieved. Partnerships between organizations who share this vision will continue to make progress and because this type of #AdvocacyMatters so much to us, we’ll be leading the way.
The Southeast Ohio Job and Disability Resource Fair will take place on Thursday, September 15th from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in East Muskingum Park in Marietta, Ohio. This event is presented by Disability Rights Ohio, Disability Rights West Virginia, Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, Southeastern Ohio Center for Independent Living, and the Washington County Veteran Services Organization.
