#AdvocacyMatters: Bringing Awareness to Power
January 26, 2024 / #AdvocacyMatters
State legislation directly impacts our efforts to provide resources and support for Ohioans with disabilities. By connecting with legislators, we can increase awareness of our advocacy work, and in turn, reach individuals in communities that are otherwise limited in disability rights-related resources.
This past Thursday, we hosted a Legislative Information Session with representatives and legislative workers to better connect those in power to the awareness and needs of disabled Ohioans. Jordan Ballinger, DRO Policy Director, and Kerstin Sjoberg, Executive Director, were there to provide updates and education to all in attendance, and Susan Koller, DRO Board Chair, talked about her personal advocacy journey and why DRO’s work matters to her.
“We had a great turnout of legislative aides from both the House and Senate,” Ballinger reflected on the event. “Everyone was interested in the information, learning about DRO, and hearing from our board Chair, Susan. Participants were engaged with the information and several indicated their interest to continue attending future sessions.”
