#AdvocacyMatters: Celebrating Opportunities
October 13, 2023 / #AdvocacyMatters
October is recognized as Disability Employment Empowerment Month, a time to celebrate “the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities past and present and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices that benefit employers and employees.” Our work in supporting independence through employment is regularly reflected in our annual Goals and Objectives, including this year’s goal of “Promoting equity and increasing positive employment outcomes for people with disabilities to prepare for, enter, or remain in the workplace.”
We recently launched our new #WorkTipWednesday series, a weekly bit of information from our Client Assistance Program team. This series covers topics like explaining Vocational Rehabilitation, eligibility and application for VR services, transition-aged youth, Individualized Plans for Employment, employment goal setting, and more. Week-by-week through the end of the year, these informational nuggets will help provide clarity to a complex topic. These weekly tips can be found on our social media channels on both Facebook and Twitter.
Independence is a key component of an equitable society, and only when people have access to the tools and resources necessary to live, work, learn, and go where and how they choose can true equity come into focus. As Ohio’s designated Client Assistance Program, we advocate for and protect the rights of Ohioans receiving vocational rehabilitation (VR) services and assist with preparing for, finding, maintaining, and advancing in competitive, integrated employment.
