#AdvocacyMatters: Empowering through Education
April 19, 2024
For the last several years, DRO has partnered with Abdnour Weiker, LLP (AW law) and the Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities (OCECD) to provide a Free Education Legal Clinic series for parents and guardians of children with disabilities. This series began with the hope to make resources regarding special education more easily accessible to Ohio families.
“Our partnership with Abdnour Weiker LLP and OCECD allows us to expand our reach to ensure that more families receive important information about their rights in Ohio’s special education and disability systems,” said Kristin Hildebrant, Special Education Team Leader. ”This year, our parent training series focused on transition-aged youth, and educated families about important services and supports to help their children prepare for future education and competitive employment.”
As part of the Free Education Legal Clinic series, virtual workshops are held to provide information and resources regarding the unique challenges faced by children with disabilities in the education system. Individuals can also schedule one-on-one guidance sessions with attorneys to receive more personalized assistance.
Though our post-secondary transition series wrapped up Monday with a final workshop on STABLE accounts, recordings of every previous workshop in the series are available free on demand at https://lawyers4students.com/legalclinic.
Soon, we’ll be sharing details of another series of clinics for the upcoming school year. We look forward to continuing our partnerships with AW Law and OCECD to provide these vital resources for families throughout our communities and across our state. #AdvocacyMatters
