#AdvocacyMatters: Engaging Our Community
October 20, 2023 / #AdvocacyMatters
As only the second ever person in her role, our new Community Engagement Coordinator (CEC), Brittanie Maddox, has hit the ground running. We are excited to share some highlights of the position today with you all, and officially introduce you to our newest CEC.
Brittanie previously worked as a Disability Rights Advocate for The Ability Center of Greater Toledo, one of the Centers for Independent Living (CIL) in Ohio. She received her bachelors in Disability Studies with a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. Brittanie has a passion for advocacy and legislation that will advance the rights of marginalized community members. Her overall goal in the CEC role, is to connect and collaborate with disabled advocates and community members across Ohio to break down barriers to community access.
Brittanie has already made a stunning impact on our work in just a few short months. One major example of this success happened last month. In connection with the Ohio Olmstead Taskforce, Brittanie helped support a Celebrate Our Carers event on September 28th that took place at the Ohio Statehouse. At this event, awards and recognition were given to Ohio’s care-workers throughout the state, and many partners came together as a disability community. We can’t wait to see Brittanie encourage more events and opportunities for engagement in her role that happen by and for people with disabilities.
Every week you can find an advocacy update from Brittanie delivered straight to your mailbox by signing up at: https://disabilityrightsohio.salsalabs.org/2023advocacysignup. You can also contact her directly by email at bmaddox@disabilityrightsohio.org or over the phone at 614-466-7264, extension 113. We know that #AdvocacyMatters to Brittanie and to you, and we can’t wait to have you connect more with her.
