#AdvocacyMatters: Making Connections

August 18, 2023 / #AdvocacyMatters

Our advocacy, our support, and our resources are only effective when they reach the communities and individuals who need them. Unfortunately, the communities who are historically underserved and underrepresented are often the ones who need us most. While we are proud that in recent years we’ve received service requests from each of Ohio’s 88 counties, we know that our vision can’t become reality until this advocacy is even more widely available.

Understanding that we must do more to reach deeper into these communities with meaningful and relevant information in ways – and languages – that work for them, it’s time to move further. We are in the early stages of an exciting project that will help amplify awareness of our advocacy, and these efforts can be maximized with your help.

We are currently working to identify community leaders and organizations who can help us better identify and understand the barriers and awareness gaps between disabled Ohioans and our organization. Information collected through these conversations will be used to develop brief videos that explain our organization and the work that we do. These videos will feature animated visuals and will be available in multiple languages, as informed by the community conversations.

If you or your organization have a connection to any underserved communities and are willing to help us with this project, please reach out to us at communications@disabilityrightsohio.org. While we know the need is great, by partnering with others who share our vision we’ll be able to develop meaningful relationships where they’re needed most. #AdvocacyMatters
