#AdvocacyMatters: Page by page
July 15, 2022 / #AdvocacyMatters
Accessibility comes in many forms… from physical spaces designed to allow freedom of movement with specialized equipment and aids to virtual spaces that support live captioning, and resources that are optimized for screen readers and other technology. Our mission of a truly equitable society requires accessibility as a foundational principle, and this is an area we are constantly striving to improve. But how accessible is something – really – if not available in the recipient’s primary language?
Over the last few years, we’ve worked to expand our vast library of resources by offering some of our most in-demand guides and factsheets in new languages. This week, we launched our “Negotiation Skills for Parents” guide in Arabic, Chinese, and German. Already available in English, ASL, Spanish, and Somali, this pivotal resource is now more available and more accessible for the families all across Ohio who need it.
Our library contains thousands of documents and countless pages of FAQs, resources, guides, and factsheets, so this language expansion work presents a monumental challenge… requiring a remarkable commitment of time and resources. By continuing to expand new language availability – both through new resources and updates to older volumes – we hope that these tools are accessible to more of the people who need them. #AdvocacyMatters is a concept at the root of our work, and true accessibility is something we’re committed to… page by page.
