DRO to hold education rights training June 23 for Youngstown parents of students with disabilities

Disability Rights Ohio, in collaboration with the NAACP Youngstown Branch, will hold a training session for parents of students with disabilities in the Youngstown City Schools from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, June 23, 2016, at the NAACP Youngstown Branch office, 1350, Fifth Ave., Suite 202, Rose Room. Lunch will be provided. The interactive workshop will teach parents and guardians about the rights of students with disabilities to a free and appropriate public education. They will learn what schools must do for students with disabilities and how to exercize their rights when schools fail to do what is required.
Each participant will:
- Get information on what schools should provide
- Understand the legal rights of students with disabilities
- Learn strategies to stand up for their student's rights to receive the services they need
- Find out how to resolve conflicts about special education services
